The Artist 4merly known as Prince has 2 organizations: Love 4 One Another which basically provides help 4 those who r in need, b it monetary, food, clothing or whatever will help spread the love; The other org. is NPG Records which gives artists like Chaka Khan & Myself the freedom 2 record as we please, and in the end we own r master recording in addition 2 making the bulk of the profits. The check that we r presenting 2 the 16 honorees 2night, on behalf of L4OA and NPG Records, comes with the reminder that it is very important that all of us- as creators of r music should also b the owners of r masters. If many of these artists here 2night along with myself whose records r still selling 2day were the owner of r masters, all of r financial positions would b quite different. So now because all of the artists on NPG Records who do own r masters & we do receive the lion's share of the profit, we're able 2 make this contribution 2night. With that in mind, we would like 2 call Mr. Butler & Mrs. Hazel 2 please come 4ward and accept this check for $100,000 2 b split up btween the 16 honorees. We would also like 2 remind other artists and companies and hopefully inspire them 2 contribute 2 this wonderful org., The Rhythm & Blues Foundation, that's trying 2 show a little 'Love 4 One Another.' - Larry Graham |
