Y don't the majority of Americans know more about the problems that plague the inner city and ultimately rot the whole system from the inside out?

From: exodus

The Americans that are not aware of the situation are lost in suburbia and in effect turn a blind eye to the problems of the inner city. Sometimes things only get noticed as they effect you. However suburbia in most cities is shrinking.

The problems that plague the inner city are not isolated to the inner city. There exist insipid motives that drive the "airtime" devoted to those problems in a dramatic way. If we were inundated with negative images from upper-class SUBURBAN life in print, television, movies, videos, family discussions and elsewhere do you THINK we could hold that sort of lifestyle in esteem? PLEASE. EVERY American knows about the problems of the inner-city because each problem is part and parcel of EVERY American's life. Perhaps it is simple cowardice that keeps many from facing the TRUTH that all of our collective choices are responsible for the collective state of our inner cities. The problems of the inner-city are of our own collective making because WE DO NOT LIVE IN A VACUUM. Too many people don't understand the absolute gravity of that simple truth. It would stand to reason that if we all made decisions with the caveat in mind that "THE WHOLE WORLD'S FUTURE DEPENDS UPON YOU MAKING A GOOD CHOICE TODAY", then we would understand how utterly dependent we are upon each other. Maybe we would also realize how that dependence expresses God's hope for us all. You are your brother's keeper. No better opportunity creates itself for that expression of love than to hear the words..."I need you".

Because of the rejection of God by our society. Most people in this country have blinders on and consider themselves their first priority, not realizing (or not wanting to) that only when we spread God's love can we make any changes for the better. I blame the media partially, but they only reflect what the popular beliefs are and what gets ratings. Unfortunately, I am afraid we (Christians) are fighting an uphill battle, but that doesn't mean we can give up. Every single one of us can find a way that God provides for us to help another. Shame on anyone who doesn't.

The people in power like to sheild our eyes from the truth. But what is even worse, is that they prefer to sheild there own eyes with their own elitism. Maybe if we ignore it, it just might go away!

Most Americans don't want 2 believe that the problems r here. "We can't have problems! Only others can have problems," they say. We have accepted as a society that the answers r external, therefore the problems must b external also. The answers and the problems r within us. "We're against hungry children and r records stand tall but there's just as much hunger here at home" said a wise man. I would also blame selfish pride. Regardless if it's the inner city or out in the country, if we are truly "one nation, under God" then it's our problem and most people wont accept it. They might point out problems but never ever suggest solutions because to many the inner city (or country) is another world or even an alternate reality. So many of us go through life with blinders on and I will b the first 2 admit that life is hard and to get through it u must filter out what u can't handle but at some point major issues must b confronted and dealt with. A problem in the city may seem far away but it'll be in your backyard soon enough and sure you can pack up and run but how much running can u do. Is there a planet in the universe 4 each and every 1 of us?

The Majority of Americans adopt a policy, of: "If I can't see it, it doesn't exist." Therefore they fail to see the truth.

With knowledge comes responsibility. If we acknowledge there's a problem we bcome accountable 4 its solution. If we take no steps 2wards a resolution, we feel bad about rselves. America is basically a hedonistic society...We want 2 avoid unpleasantness and feel good. However, we've lost "The Garden" mentality, so the bliss we seek is now all 2 often CONceived via ignorance...We CHOOSE not 2 know. If we can CONvince rselves of r separ8ness, a false sense of security can b achieved. By thinking in terms of "us/them" we allow rselves 2 proceed unaffected...The nation's #1 problem right now is apathy. And unless we stop dnying rselves r unity, it will dstroy us all.
